Summary: It has easy to read text for young readers. It explains how plants begin as seeds. It takes the reader through the process of planting a seed and watches how it grows. The book is from a series of informational books called Compass Point Phonics Readers. It has phonic instructions as one of its focus.

Access Features: Contents, note to parents, nursery rhyme, word list, concentration game, read more, index and an experiment.

Standards: Science: Life cycle of plants

Response: Although this is a simple book, it has some great ideas and teaching strategies. The phonic instruction is taught through the nursery rhyme. The concentration game reinforces the words from the word list. There is an experiment about growing a plant that is simple enough for the children to do at home. I would use all these ideas with my plant study. Students could identify the science processes as they conduct the experiment.

Science Processes: Observing, predicting, measuring, experimenting
